November, 2022 and an overwhelming number of voters in the Tea Tree Gully council area have put their confidence in Marijka Ryan as their new Mayor. The time leading up to the election saw old faces, new runners and individuals with political aspirations alike vying for the win. It also saw plenty of action and debate on social media.
A change for the better
Mrs Ryan has won the campaign for Mayor with an overwhelming majority of votes, something she puts down to voters recognising her record for community service and her reputation for integrity. “It’s time for change and I think people at last have come to realise that”, she said. The days of infighting are over. I will work hard to bring unity back to local government and to lead a Council that will listen to what locals have to say. Together we will work to create a progressive Tea Tree Gully that we can all be proud of.”
The benefit of experience

VAA and Mrs Ryan were united in their belief that Tea Tree Gully residents deserved a leader with community interests at heart. “My campaign wasn’t backed by any political party or third-party benefactor”, says Mrs Ryan. “Everything was self-funded, and quite modestly funded at that. VAA understood that clearly right from the start, but nonetheless offered to bring their experience to the table and help in any way that they could. Working through a campaign like this can be a lonely business and it has been invaluable to have a team with which to compare notes. Working with campaign experts and creative writers is all very well, but having access to a writer who has specialist political experience is areal advantage.”
